After much pestering from our members, and many late nights working on the code, it is about time we blogged about Minions! The game is an unholy alliance of team death-match game play with real time strategy mechanics. Players are split into two teams of up to 6 people each. Each player then selects a unit to control (called a Minion) which they can order around the map and use to attack others. To win each team has to simply destroy the other’s main base… that is, once they have overcome the opposing team’s defensive towers, mini-Minions and of course the other players!
With the help of the beta testers, we recorded an epic 6v6 player Minions game. In it you can see players fighting as a team, attacking enemy towers and each other.
There are several different kinds of Minions to choose from each with their own unique skills and stats. ‘Splodge’, for example, is a hardy unit with great health coupled to Ablative Armor and a Heal while ‘Sneaky’ has a teleporter and oodles of short range damage for the more brazen player. As you play, each unit gains experience points which can be spent on upgrading any of its special skills making them stronger, faster or just plain more annoying.
As with all multi player games a reasonable Internet connection is required although Minions is pretty resilient. We have made it in such a way that those on faster connections are unaffected by players who are suffering from lag.
